Mozart was riding with Poppa Haydn On the streets of Vienna town Haydn said, “Amadeus, I'd like to play us An old fashioned horse riding song.” Mozart said without hesitation, “I have a variation I'd like to play.” Haydn said, “Of course, on Beethoven's Horse I brought a piano today.” All in a hurry, his face red with fury Beethoven said, “My horse is gone!” Haydn said, “Have no fear, it's right over here. So climb up and play us a song!”

about

In 2015, I did a residency with the orchestra and choir students at Thayer Hill Middle School in Naperville, IL, where my friend Lori Valentin runs the orchestra program. We concluded with a concert where the students accompanied me, featuring choir, orchestra, and individual students improvising solos. I created this collection of the songs included in the concert so that interested audience members could have the original recordings. Many of the songs on this bespoke compilation appear on other albums, and so we've also included the information of where they originally were released. This collection is dedicated to all of Lori's hard work, and to the marvelous music her students made.

Their musically rich and lyrically resonant albums were at odds with the aesthetic of grunge, the industry "flavor of the day," and so mainstream success eluded them, but the band has remained true to their sound. ... more
